FORT WORTH, Texas – Coach Prime and the new-look Colorado Buffaloes put on quite the show in their debut performance.
Junior quarterback Shedeur Sanders set a CU single-game record with 510 passing yards, while also tossing four touchdown passes, leading his father’s team to a thrilling and stunning 45-42 upset of No. 17 TCU on Saturday at Amon G. Carter Stadium.

Following a dismal 1-11 season in 2022, CU hired Deion “Coach Prime” Sanders in December to pump life back into the program.
It didn’t take long.
The Buffaloes were nearly unstoppable on offense and made just enough plays on defense to pull off the upset and open some eyes around the country.
True freshman running back Dylan Edwards caught five passes for 135 yards and three touchdowns, while also adding a rushing touchdown. Travis Hunter (11 catches for 119 yards), Jimmy Horn Jr. (11 catches for 117 yards and a touchdown) and Xavier Weaver (six catches for 118 yards) also topped the 100-yard mark.
It’s believed to be the first time in CU history that the Buffs had four 100-yard receivers in the same game. They had three 100-yard receivers in the entire 2022 season.
CU had an impressive start, forcing TCU to punt and then marching down the field for opening drive touchdown.
Shedeur Sanders hit Dylan Edwards for a 4-yard touchdown pass to cap a 13-play, 73-yard drive that was aided by a pair of TCU penalties.
TCU’s next possession ended with CU’s Trevor Woods picking off a pass in the end zone. The Buffs’ had a 49-yard field goal attempt by Jace Feely blocked late in the quarter, but took a 7-0 lead into the second.
Trey Sanders got TCU on the board with a 7-yard touchdown run early in the second quarter, but CU quickly responded. Sy’veon Wilkerson’s 2-yard touchdown run capped a 10-play, 75-yard scoring march that gave the Buffs a 14-7 lead.
With 1:53 to go in the second, Trey Sanders added a 4-yard touchdown run for TCU to tie the game, but the Buffs responded again. Feely hit a 49-yard field goal on the last play of the half, as CU took a 17-14 lead into the break.
CU had a disjointed start to third quarter, calling a timeout to avoid a delay of game penalty before the first snap and then getting penalized on the first snap. On the second snap, though, Edwards took a short pass from Shedeur Sanders, weaved through some defenders and bolted to the end zone for a 75-yard touchdown that gave CU a 24-14 lead.
The double-digit lead didn’t last long, though.
Three plays later, TCU’s Chandler Morris connected with Jared Wiley for a 21-yard touchdown to cut the CU lead to 24-21.
The Horned Frogs threatened on their next possession, too, but Travis Hunter picked off a Morris pass at the 3-yard line to end the threat.
CU was unable to capitalize, however, and after a punt, TCU went on the march again. This time, Morris hit Dylan Wright for a 23-yard touchdown pass that gave the Horned Frogs their first lead, 28-24, with 2:32 to play in the third.
A 44-yard pass from Shedeur Sanders to Xavier Weaver sparked a quick five-play Buffs’ drive in response. Edwards capped the drive with his third touchdown, a 7-yard run that put CU ahead 21-28.
The back-and-forth continued when TCU went on a 14-play, 79-yard drive. This one was capped by a 19-yard touchdown run by Morris to give the lead back to TCU, 35-31.
CU responded again, with a 26-yard touchdown pass from Shedeur Sanders to Jimmy Horn Jr. to regain the lead 38-35.
On the ensuing kickoff, however, TCU’s Major Everhart went 86 yards to set up another scored. Trey Sanders bowled in from a yard out to put the Horned Frogs on top, 42-35.
Naturally, CU came back again, with Shedeur Sanders hitting Edwards for a swing pass that Edwards took 46 yards for his fourth touchdown and a 45-42 lead.
