Damage from fish tank fire at insurance office estimated at $10,000

A fish tank malfunction resulted in a a fire at an insurance office west of Wilmington.

The fire was reported at 02:56 a.m. Monday at 101 Kirkwood Square.

The Mill Creek Fire Department was called to the scene after Delaware State Police saw smoke coming from the building.

Crews found a fire inside the Allstate Insurance office.  Neighboring mutual aid fire companies also responded. The fire was declared under control at 3:45 a.m. No one was injured.

A deputy state fire marshal determined that the fire originated from components at a fish tank Damage was estimated at $10,000..
