The president’s son and campaign senior adviser spoke to students at the University Auditorium at the University of Florida on Thursday.Donald Trump Jr.’s message was the importance of conservative values and the strength of the economy. However, the entire event was raucous with dissent and support from the crowd.A coalition of students and community members called, No Nazis at UF, marched around the auditorium, Thursday night.The group said they’re angry their student activity fee money was being spent on the event.“The use of student fees to fund this event is questionable. That’s why most of the students are upset,” University of Florida professor Betty Smocovitis said. “Even if people weren’t opposed to that, we just really oppose the rhetoric that the entire Trump administration stands for it’s racist, sexist, xenophobic, homophobic,” Alia DeLong, a member of the No Nazis at UF Coalition said.A university spokesperson said because they were being paid student fees, Donald Jr. and his girlfriend, Kimberly Guilfoyle, could not campaign during their speeches.Some conservative students WESH 2 News spoke to said they’re happy their school allowed the speakers because it demonstrates freedom of speech.“I think it’s inappropriate to say, ‘No, one side shouldn’t be able to speak.’ I don’t agree with everything. I don’t think it should be censored or banned just because I don’t agree with it,” student Graham Yirka said.The debate carried inside the auditorium and through both speeches.“The book that I have coming out in a few weeks called ‘Triggered,’ I probably don’t have to explain to you why the book is called ‘Triggered’ because you can hear from the audience just why that is,” Trump Jr. said.Donald Trump Jr. did say he would be coming back to Florida before the 2020 election.
