Thousands of fans gathered Thursday evening at Veteran’s Memorial Stadium in Troy to watch two big rivals play. The game is called the Battle for the Belt and it is a wonderful tradition between the South Alabama Jaguars and the Troy Trojans. It is a battle for the Sunbelt West, and all the fans we met had their game faces on! Veteran’s Memorial Stadium was filled with families cheering on both teams, and the cold didn’t seem to dampen their spirits.
The stadium was surrounded by tailgates with food, and it felt more like a football Saturday than a Thursday night. South Alabama fans happily made the drive from Mobile to cheer on their Jaguars, and Troy fans came from Montgomery and all over Central Alabama to support the Trojans.
