The public is advised that a high bacteria count notification has been issued for Pine Trees beach on the Big Island.

The Hawai‘i Department of Health is uncertain about the representativeness of the first water sample recently taken at the popular West Hawai‘i surfing beach and is retesting. Bacteria levels of 271 per 100 mL were recently detected during routine beach monitoring.

The beach has historically met the acceptable beach threshold level and there is no known source of fecal contamination. The Health Department will update the notification based on the results of this retesting.
