TAMPA, Fla.—University of Hawai’i senior middle blocker Amber Igiede earned AVCA third-team All-America honors for the second-straight season. Igiede is just the 18th Rainbow Wahine to earn multiple AVCA All-American awards. She was voted The Big West Championship’s Most Valuable Player after leading Hawai’i to their fourth-straight conference title and the program’s 30th-straight NCAA tournament. The All-Americans will be honored at the 2023 AVCA All-America Banquet on Friday, Dec. 15 at the TCC Ballroom BC of the Tampa Convention Center.
 
The 2023 AA class includes 42 players—14 on the first, second, and third teams—from 22 schools. An additional 56 players were named honorable mention. Igiede is just one of three players out of the 42 to represent a non-Power 5 conference.
 
Igiede concluded 2023 as the NCAA’s No. 2 ranked middle blocker in both total points (540.0) and points/set (4.62) while leading The Big West with 435 kills (career-high), 3.72 kills per set, a .396 hitting percentage, total points and points/set. Igiede led Hawai’i with 127.0 blocks, 1.09 blocks per set, 28 service aces while scooping up a career-high 117 digs. She led UH all four seasons in block solos, block assists and total blocks.
 
She was just the third UH player to earn All-Big West First Team honors all four seasons. She collected five BW Offensive Player of the Week awards in her senior campaign. She is the fourth Rainbow Wahine to record over 1,000 kills and 500 blocks in her career.
 
In the NCAA career active record rankings, Igiede finished as the No. 3 middle with 1,371 career kills and was tied for 11th with 528 career blocks. 
 
Igiede is on of 31 Rainbow Wahine to ever be selected as an AVCA All-American since 1981. She is the 17th UH player to earn at least two All-American awards.
