Lafayette police still searching for shooting suspect as victim reco…

Lafayette police are still searching for the suspect in a shooting at a mobile home park Tuesday afternoon.

According to police radio traffic, dispatchers around 1:50 p.m. Tuesday received a report of a shooting at Lafayette Gardens, 11700 E. South Boulder Road.

Lafayette police Deputy Chief Brian Rosipajla said the victim is recovering at the hospital. Police have not yet said if the victim and the suspect knew each other or what might have led to the shooting.

Police searched the area around the shooting, but did not locate the suspect Tuesday. The search prompted a shelter-in-place warning for nearby residents and also caused several nearby schools to move to secure status.

Rosipajla said police were continuing the search for the suspect Wednesday, and were following up on leads.

Boulder Valley School District spokesman Randy Barber said there will be extra patrols and security at nearby schools, but no campuses will be officially placed on any secure status.

Lafayette police tweeted that the suspect is believed to be armed. He was described as a bald, light-skinned Hispanic man wearing either a white or gray sweatshirt.

Anyone who sees the suspect is asked to call 911 or 303-441-4444 in non-emergency situations.
