A 37-year-old man was arrested on drug trafficking charges Wednesday after police found over 100 pounds of methamphetamine in a vehicle he was driving, authorities said.

Victor Luis Arriola was in possession of a cache of drugs with a street value of several million dollars, according to a news release from the Las Vegas office of Homeland Security Investigations, or HSI.

The arrest was part of a joint operation involving HSI, which is the main investigative arm of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, and the Metropolitan Police Department.

After Arriola’s vehicle was pulled over, the news release said, Metro officers observed “clearly visible” narcotics in the rear of the vehicle, stored in two large, open boxes.

“This operation demonstrates our unwavering commitment to keeping dangerous narcotics off the streets and protecting our communities,” said Eddy Wang, special agent in charge of Homeland Security Investigations in Los Angeles, in the news release.

Arriola faces two felony charges, both related to drug trafficking, including a charge for trafficking over 400 grams of an illegal narcotic, court records show. He remained in custody at Clark County Detention Center as of late Wednesday afternoon, an online jail roster said.

Las Vegas Justice Court records showed he made an initial court appearance on Wednesday and has a status check hearing set for Tuesday. His bail was set at $100,000.
