Longmont to continue spraying for mosquitos Thursday – Boulder Daily…

Vector Disease Control International will spray for mosquitoes in Longmont on Thursday at dusk to control the spread of West Nile Virus.

As of Friday, Boulder County Public Health determined that although the risk of West Nile Virus transmission had decreased slightly from the previous week, it still remained high.

The following zones will be sprayed: The Shores, Garden Acres Park, Lanyon Park/Stoney Ridge, Jim Hamm Nature Area, Union Reservoir, Rough & Ready South, Izaak Walton Park, Great Western Cattail Court, Sandstone Ranch, Creekside, Renaissance, the St. Vrain Greenway, enhanced zones SW-2N & SW-2S, E-1E and E-3.

Boulder County Public Health and Longmont officials urge residents to practice the “four Ds” of prevention that include utilizing DEET-enhanced insect repellent, dressing in light colors and loose-fitting long sleeves and pants, avoiding the outdoors from dusk until sunrise and draining any standing water outside of homes.
