HONOLULU—The University of Hawai’i men’s tennis team wrapped up its fall schedule hosting the second and final day of the UH-UHH-HPU Invitational on Sunday, Nov. 5, 2023 at the UH Tennis Complex. Competing in the two-day tourney against Hawai’i were Hawai’i-Hilo and Hawai’i Pacific.
 
The teams played a pair of doubles rounds and one round of singles.
 
Hawai’i’s doubles duo of Andrew Somerville and Sohta Urano recorded the Rainbow Warriors only win in the first round. Somerville and Urano defeated Hawai’i-Hilo’s Jeffrey and Luca Matheiowetz, 6-2. In the second round, UH’s Quinn Snyder and Andy Hernandez edged out HPU’s Mile Matic and Adam Vassir in a tie-breaker, 7-6 (4).
 
Both Guillaume Tattevin and newcomer Blue Cockle won their singles matches with their opponents retiring from competition. Both UH’s Somerville and Hernandez’s matches were decided in third set, super tiebreakers. Somerville breezed through the first set, but stumbled in the second, then fell 10-6 in the super tie-breaker. Hernandez held off HPU’s Jim Walder in a first set tiebreaker then fell in the second set. Walder rallied to take Set 2 to force a super tie-breaker for the win., 6-7 (3), 6-3, 1-0 (4).
