
MIDDLETOWN, Conn. (WTNH) – An officer involved shooting happened Saturday morning in an isolated incident in Middletown, police report.
Middletown police were responding to a disturbance in the 100 block of Liberty St. at 6:33 a.m. when the shooting occurred. The officer involved sustained injuries and was taken to the hospital before being released.
The suspect was also injured and taken to a hospital where he is receiving treatment. He is in serious but stable condition.
Neighbors reported hearing the gun shots from their homes. Peter Zipf, a neighbor and Middletown resident told News8, “This has never happened before. We’ve been here 15 years and we love the neighborhood… I’ve always been impressed with our friends and neighbors so it was definitely surprising.”
There is currently no threat to the public but police request that the area be kept clear.
The Inspector General’s Office is leading the investigation in collaboration with Connecticut State Police, Eastern District Major Crime Squad and the Middlesex County State’s Attourney. This is an active investigation. Check back with News8 for more details.
