Pedestrian struck, killed in Hartford by vehicle later found on fire

A pedestrian was hit and killed in Hartford late Wednesday by a vehicle that took off from the scene and was later found engulfed in flames on Interstate 384.

Officers responded to the area of Main Street, just north of Tower Avenue, at 11:55 p.m. on a report of a pedestrian being struck and found a 40-year-old man suffering from serious injuries, according to Lt. Aaron Boisvert of the Hartford Police Department.

The victim, identified as Lutricia Daniels of Chicopee, Massachusetts, was pronounced dead at the scene, Boisvert said in a statement.

According to Boisvert, the vehicle that struck Daniels was described as a red Honda Accord that left the scene and was last spotted heading south on Main Street after the collision.

The vehicle was later found by Connecticut State Police abandoned and engulfed in flames on I-384 East, near Exit 2.

The Hartford Police Crime Scene Division responded and assumed the investigation.

The investigation remains ongoing.
