PFF ranks Georgia football star as NFL’s best RB heading into 2023

Heading into the 2023 season, Pro Football Focus has ranked Cleveland Browns running back Nick Chubb as the top ranked ball carrier in the NFL.

Chubb, a former Georgia Bulldog who was selected by Cleveland in the second round of the 2018 NFL draft, is coming off another fantastic year with the Browns.

2022 marked his fifth year in the pros, and also his best. He finished the year with 1,525 rushing yards (third highest in the NFL) and 13 total touchdowns.

Chubb takes the top honor here for his consistency. He’s never posted a rushing grade below 80.0, and his most recent grade of 90.7 in 2022 was a career high. Along with being one of the most physically gifted backs, he regularly forces missed tackles at one of the highest rates in the NFL and ranks near the top in yards-per-carry average.

Chubb, UGA’s second all-time leading rusher, had more than 1,000 yards after contact in 2022 and forced 83 missed tackles last year for the Browns.

Through his first five seasons as a pro, Chubb has amassed an astounding 6,341 yards (5.2 yards per carry), 48 touchdowns and 119 receptions.

Chubb was the only former Georgia running back to make the list of the top-32 backs. I was surprised not to see the versatile D’Andre Swift make the list, especially after his trade to the Philadelphia Eagles, where, if he stays healthy, can have a huge season.

Per FanDuel, Chubb’s has the eighth best odds to win NFL Offensive Player of the Year, at +2,500.
