The iconic Doobie Brothers, have just released their latest music video entitled “Lahaina.” A deeply heartfelt collaboration with other legendary musicians. It was done to generate support for Maui following the devastating wildfires in August.

The video below launched on November 17, and the song showcases the Doobie Brothers, together with Pat Simmons, Tom Johnston, Michael McDonald, and John McFee. They joined forces with Mick Fleetwood, Jake Shimabukuro, and Henry Kapono. All of these musicians have deep ties with Maui and all of Hawaii.

Among them, Mick Fleetwood says his restaurant was also lost. The rock legend posted a statement on his Instagram that his restaurant, Fleetwood’s on Front Street, was burned down amid the fires that have wiped out Lahaina, the historic town that both he and the restaurant have called home for several decades.

Earnings from the song go towards supporting the People’s Fund of Maui.

The Doobie Brothers themselves made a donation of $100,000 to the People’s Fund of Maui. It provides direct financial aid to more than 8,000 Maui community members affected by the fires in Lahaina and Kula.

Dwayne Johnson, who is the co-founder of the fund, expressed his gratitude for the Doobie Brothers’ support. He emphasized the song’s role in beautifully capturing the aloha spirit and aiding in the recovery on Maui

This Hawaii ukulele virtuoso and musical composer is known for incredibly fast and complex finger work. His music combines elements that highlight the power of music to bring people together and to strengthen communities such as Lahaina.

Pat Simmons, who has been a Maui resident for nearly three decades, shared personal connections to the Doobie Brothers song. His goal is to pay tribute to Maui, increase awareness, and raise donations for fire recovery.

The song “Lahaina” was co-written by Pat, together with long-time Lahaina resident Michael McDonald and John Shanks.
