Park rangers are investigating a burglary that happened last week at Pu’uhonua o Hōnaunau National Historical Park in Hōnaunau on the west side of the Big Island.
At 10 p.m. Sept. 22, a male suspect entered the park and burglarized offices and storage areas. The suspect stole several pieces of equipment ranging in total value of between $15,000 and $25,000. Stolen items include batteries, chargers, weed whippers, chainsaws, cordless drills, grinders, sanders and various other equipment.
Some of the items were marked with “PUHO” or “NP” followed by a number.
The individual was recorded by a security camera.
Anyone with information that could aid with this investigation or was in the area around Sept. 22 is encouraged to submit a tip.
“You don’t have to tell us who you are, but please tell us what you know,” the park said in a press release.
