ESPN college football analyst Rece Davis ranks his top college football teams after Week 6.
Georgia, which has won back-to-back national championships, finally looked like the No. 1 team in the country after a 51-13 win over Kentucky. The USC Trojans had another narrow win in Week 6. The Trojans needed triple overtime to defeat Arizona.
Oklahoma earned a dramatic, last-minute win over Texas in the Red River Showdown. The Sooners are the final undefeated team in the Big 12 and are looking like a College Football Playoff contender.
Who are Rece Davis’ top 10 college football teams after Week 5 and ahead of an interesting slate of games in Week 6?

USC Trojans

Gary A. Vasquez-USA TODAY Sports
Week 6: USC 43, Arizona 41
The USC Trojans had a lackluster defensive performance in triple overtime against Arizona, but it is hard to bet against USC star quarterback Caleb Williams. The Trojans’ defense will need to step up as USC plays Notre Dame, Utah, Washington and Oregon as part of a challenging five-week stretch.

Week 6: Oklahoma 34, Texas 30
Davis does not make the same mistake that the US LBM Coaches Poll made. Davis ranks Texas ahead of Alabama. Both teams have one loss and Texas won head-to-head, so the Crimson Tide should not be ranked ahead of Texas.
Texas was previously Davis’ No. 2 team in the country.

Oregon Ducks

The Register Guard
Week 6: bye week
Oregon quarterback Bo Nix and the Ducks hit the road to play at Washington in one of the biggest games of Week 7. The winner of Oregon-Washington will be in the drivers’ seat to win the Pac-12. Oregon faces a ranked opponent in five of its final seven games.

Penn State Nittany Lions

Matthew O’Haren-USA TODAY Sports
Week 6: bye week
Penn State has looming games with Ohio State and Michigan. The Nittany Lions had a bye week in Week 6. Penn State plays UMass this week before finally playing Ohio State on Oct. 21.

Ohio State Buckeyes

The Columbus Dispatch
Week 6: Ohio State 37, Maryland 17
Ohio State knocked off an undefeated Maryland team at home in Week 6 as the Buckeyes moved to 5-0. Ohio State has a big game against Penn State in on Oct. 21 after the Purdue game.

Oklahoma Sooners

The Oklahoman
Week 6: Oklahoma 34, Texas 30
The Oklahoma Sooners are coming off their top win of the season. The Sooners used some clutch play from star quarterback Dillon Gabriel to surge past Texas in the fourth quarter. Oklahoma plays UCF in Week 7.

Washington Huskies

Joe Nicholson-USA TODAY Sports
Week 6: bye week
Washington quarterback Michael Penix has thrown for nearly 2,000 passing yards and is the No. 2 passing quarterback in the country despite playing in only five games. 5-0 Washington hosts 5-0 Oregon in a critical Pac-12 game this week.
Michael Penix (+220) is now the favorite to win the Heisman Trophy.

Michigan Wolverines

Matt Krohn-USA TODAY Sports
Week 6: Michigan 52, Minnesota 10
Rece Davis had Michigan as his preseason No. 1, but he is not as high on the Wolverines now. The Wolverines have done nothing but dominate to start the 2023 college football season. Michigan’s closest game of the season was a 24-point win over Rutgers.
Michigan has played an easy schedule to open the season, but faces a much tougher October and November slate.

Florida State Seminoles

Tallahassee Democrat
Week 6: Florida State 39, Virginia Tech 17
Florida State toppled Virginia Tech at home behind a 200-yard rushing performance from star running back Trey Benson. The Seminoles are the top team in the ACC and face Syracuse at home in Week 7. Florida State is no longer Rece Davis No. 1 team.

Georgia Bulldogs

Week 6: Georgia 51, Kentucky 13
Georgia’s dominant performance against Kentucky was enough for Rece Davis to move the Bulldogs into his No. 1 ranking. Davis previously had Georgia as his No. 3 team. The Dawgs have a road game against Vanderbilt in Week 7 before having their bye week.
