Removing rust from your cast-tables, such as a tablesaw, bandsaw or jointer, doesn’t require a lot of elbow grease. You’ll learn how to use a couple of commercial rust-removing products to remove surface rust, and we’ll also show you how to remove deep rust using a drill equipped with a wire brush.
Hi, I’m Bob Hunter from WOOD Magazine. One of the great things about stationary woodworking tools is the cast iron tops. They add a lot of weight for stability, and they dampen vibration created by the saw blades or the cutter heads or the motors. But one of the drawbacks to cast iron is that it can rust quickly, and that creates a problem because that rust can get onto your wood, it can get into the other parts of your saw. So clean it up, and treat it, and keep it nice and clean. These two tools that here, a jointer and a table saw, were sitting in a shop that had a leaky roof, and as a result, they’ve got rust all over the cast iron.
