Senior citizen in custody following stand-off in Plainville

PLAINVILLE, Conn. (WTNH) – An 80-year-old man was arrested after firing a dozen rounds into a television and barricading himself in his home on Friday, according to police. 

Plainville Police received a complaint at 7:25 p.m. Friday night that 80-year-old Plainville resident Philip Theriault had fired a weapon inside his house at 86 Broad St.

Police arrived at the house on Broad St., established a perimeter around the home and Mrs. Theriault was evacuated from the building.

Mr. Theriault barricaded himself in their house and a Special Weapons and Tactics team (SWAT) was brought in to assist with his removal. 

Mr. Theriault was taken into police custody without incident at approximately 9:30 p.m. He was transported to a hospital for intoxication and possible psychiatric issues.

An arrest warranted was issued for Mr. Theriault Saturday morning and he will be charged upon his release from the hospital.
