COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Six members of the University of Hawai’i football team were named to the Mountain West’s all-conference teams as selected by a panel of media and the league’s 12 head coaches.
 
Wide receiver Steven McBride was selected to the second team while five others earned honorable mention – wide receiver Pofele Ashlock, defensive back Peter Manuma, quarterback Brayden Schager, placekicker Matthew Shipley, and defensive back Cam Stone.
 
Manuma is a two-time all-MW honorable mention while Stone, a transfer from Wyoming, earned his third honorable mention nod but first as a Rainbow Warrior.
 
Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty was named Offensive Player of the Year; Colorado State defensive end Mohamed Kamara was Defensive Player of the Year; UNLV placekicker Jose Pizano was Special Teams Player of the Year; UNLV quarterback Jayden Maiava was Freshman of the Year; and UNLV’s Barry Odom was Coach of the Year.
 
UNLV had a conference-high 14 honorees followed by Air Force (12), Boise State (12), Colorado State (12), Fresno State (10), San Jose State (10), Utah State (10), Wyoming (8), New Mexico (7), Hawai’i (6), and Nevada (6).
 
Steven McBride, Wide Receiver

  • Finished with 63 catches for a team-leading 1,024 yards and nine TDs
  • Recorded the 24th 1,000 receiving season in program history
  • Tied for No. 3 in FBS with six 50+ yard catches on the season
  • Made catches of 65- and 62-yards against San Diego State. The 65-yard reception was the longest pass play of the season for UH
  • Scored in six of 13 games this season and is tied for third in the Mountain West in receiving TDs with nine
  • Scored multiple TDs three times this season versus Vanderbilt, Albany, and New Mexico
  • Season-high 180 yards receiving on six catches against UNLV

 
Pofele Ashlock, Wide Receiver

  • Leads all FBS freshmen in receptions (83) and receiving yards (832) and is second in TD receptions (9) and fourth in receiving yards per game (64.0)
  • First freshman to lead UH in receptions since Davone Bess in 2005
  • Became the first UH freshman in the school’s Division I era to start a career with back-to-back 100-yard receiving games against Vanderbilt and Stanford
  • Earned Mountain West Freshman of the Week honors in each of those weeks
  • Second on the team with 12 catches of 20+ yards
  • Team leader in receptions and receiving in eight of the team’s 13 games
  • Season-high 127 yards against Vanderbilt
  • Season-high 12 catches in win over Air Force

 
Peter Manuma, Defensive Back

  • Started all 13 games at safety
  • Led the team with 87 tackles (60 solo), including 5.5 for loss
  • Team-leader with three interceptions
  • Named the Mountain West Defensive Player of the Week after leading the team with 12 tackles and one interception against Air Force
  • Recorded at least three tackles in all 13 games

 
Brayden Schager, Quarterback

  • Started every game this season
  • Among the nation’s leaders in passing yards and touchdowns
  • Threw for 300+ yards six times, becoming the eighth quarterback in program history to post at least six 300+ yard passing games in a single-season
  • On the year, threw for 3,542 yards on 332-of-525 passing (63.2%)
  • Led the Mountain West in passing yards and touchdown passes (26)
  • Ranks No. 8 nationally in passing yards, No. 13 in passing TDs and No. 6 in completions per game (25.5)
  • Ranks second among all FBS quarterbacks with nine passes of 50+ yards

 
Matthew Shipley, Placekicker

  • Named a semifinalist for the Lou Groza Award for the second time in his career after also making the list in 2021
  • Converted 14-of-18 field goal attempts (77.8%), including 3-of-4 from 50+
  • Kicked two-game winning field goals as time expired – New Mexico State and Colorado State, the latter was a career-long 51-yarder
  • One of four kickers nationally to make multiple game-winning field goals this year
  • One of five FBS kickers to make multiple 50-yard field goals in a game this year after connecting on a pair of 50-plus yarders at Nevada
  • Ranks in the top five at UH in career points (4th), field goals made (3rd) and field goal percentage (2nd)
  • A perfect 10-for-10 on field goal attempts from 40 yards and in
  • Two of his four misses were blocked
  • Also the team’s punter, averaging 39.5 yards per attempt

 
Cam Stone, Defensive Back

  • Started 10 games at cornerback, missing three games due to injury
  • Targeted 31 times all season in nearly 400 snaps, the fifth-fewest targets against by Mountain West corners with at least 300 snaps played according to Pro Football Focus.
  • Had six pass breakups and one interception
  • His lone interception against Air Force sealed UH’s victory
  • Finished with 24 tackles (15 solo), including 1.5 for loss
