HONOLULU–The University of Hawai’i softball team hosts its annual Fall Preseason Classic this week. Chaminade and Fullerton College will compete in the three-day tournament which starts with UH playing Chaminade in a single game at 6:00 p.m. HT on Thursday, Nov. 9 at the Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium. Three games will be played on both Friday, Nov. 10 and Sunday, Nov. 12 beginning at 12:00 p.m. HT on both days.

The Rainbow Wahine return 21 letterwinners which include seven starting position players and four pitchers from last year’s squad which finished with a 30-23 overall record.
Hawai’i’s offense returns its top-six hitters from last season. Senior second baseman Maya Nakamura earned NFCA All-Region honors after leading UH with a team-best .390 batting average which ranked her at No. 3 in the Big West and No. 67 in the NCAA DI. Nakamura also led the ‘Bows with 335 runs scored, 29 walks and a .531 on-base %. Junior catcher Izabella Martinez had a breakout season which garnered her first-team all-Big West honors. On offense she led the Big West as the toughest batter to strikeout, getting fanned just four times in 143 at-bats. Martinez led UH with 49 hits while tallying eight doubles nine home runs and 39 RBI. Junior designated player Haley Johnson was clutch in the middle of the lineup, racking up a team-best 11 doubles and 43 RBI. She hit .305 for the season.
In all five different Rainbow Wahine–who are all returning–finished the season leading in a Big West statistical category:
