A diverse lineup of speakers — authors, teachers, psychologists, artists — will take the stage at Macky Auditorium Oct. 19 for the 12th TEDxBoulder event.

TEDx events are independently organized and include performances and talks from people from a wide range of backgrounds.

The event’s theme is “Pride & Prejudice,” but there’s no telling how speakers will run with that idea, said spokesman Ef Rodriguez.

“There’s a lot of filters you could run your thoughts through with that theme,” he said. “We’ve got astrobiologists and people who focus on emotional fitness, so I’m very curious to see how that works with our speakers.”

Ten of the 13 speakers are based in Colorado, Rodriguez said, and range from poet Suzi Q. Smith to historian Katrina Gulliver.

Rodriguez said he’s particularly excited about hearing from clinical psychologist and neuroscientist Roselinde Kaiser, who is researching how improved neurocognitive functioning also improved health, with the goal of translating science into emotional wellness.

“Emotional fitness is something I think we all can embrace and interpret pretty quickly, but I don’t know how fit I am,” he said. “I think this is a time when empathy and sympathy are buzzwords, so that’s really resonating with me.”

Tickets start at $35 and are available online.
