Tide defense focused on improvement - WVUA 23

After Alabama football practice concluded on Saturday afternoon, players and coaches from the defensive side of the ball met with the media.

Alabama defensive coordinator Kane Wommack spoke highly of redshirt-junior defensive back Devonta Smith, saying his position is key to the defense.

“The ‘Husky’ position is so critical to what we do,” Wommack said. “We’re asking quite a bit, so he needs a very versatile skillset, and I think Smitty has that.”

Smith says he took the time to point out some of the newcomers to the program on the defensive side of the ball that have stood out early on.

“Red [Morgan] is phenomenal, man,” Smith said. “You are hearing it from me, Red is going to be a great player for us.”

Red Morgan is a freshman defensive back. The former Central-Phenix City standout has turned heads early on in spring practice with his athleticism. Smith also noted that USC transfer, defensive back…
