UH Swim and Dive Finishes Strong at UNLV Invitational

LAS VEGAS — The University of Hawai’i men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams closed the UNLV Invitational with two individual wins, a program top-10, and the seventh relay victory of the meet on Tuesday at Jim Reitz Pool in Las Vegas.
 
UH freshman Zofia Tyminska picked up her second win of the three-day meet with a victory in the women’s 200 breaststroke. Tyminska won the 100 breaststroke on Monday and finished the 200 in 2 minutes, 13.23 seconds on Tuesday. She was UH’s top individual scorer in the meet with 70 points and ranked third overall in the women’s standings.
 
Graduate student Mira Selling tied for first in the 100 free with a season-best time of 49.68 seconds, which moved her up to eighth in program history. UNLV’s Erika Carlson also finished at 49.68. Selling was fourth in the individual rankings with 63 points for the week.
 
The Rainbow Wahine capped the meet by winning the women’s 400 freestyle relay in 3:20.25 with the team of Holly Nelson, Gabrielle Scudamore, Cass Treydte and Selling. The ‘Bows’ team of Tyminska, Anna Friedrich, Kira Hobbs and Lola Davison came in fourth with a time of 3:25.00.
 
UH teams won seven of the 10 relay events during the meet with the Rainbow Wahine winning four of five races and the Warriors claiming three wins and placing second in two.
 
Sophomore Mario Surkovic placed second in men’s 100 IM with a time of 49.18, followed by Justin Lisoway (49.60) in third. Surkovic finished second in the men’s individual ranking with 69 points, followed by teammates Jordan Meacham and Grant Stoddard with 62 each.
 
The trio all finished in the top five in the men’s 100 free with Meacham placing second at 44.24, Surkovic fourth (44.70) and Stoddard fifth (45.12).
 
Both UH squads placed second in the team standings behind host UNLV. The Rainbow Wahine finished the meet with 870 points, trailing only UNLV’s 1,012 in the eight-team field. The Warriors posted 781 points with UNLV leading the seven-team race with 1,065.50.
 
The Rainbow Wahine and Rainbow Warriors will be back in action in two dual meets at Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Complex in the first week of 2024. UH will host Fairfield on Jan. 2 and Ohio State (swimming only) on Jan. 5. Both meets are scheduled for 5 p.m.
