LONG BEACH, Calif. – A half dozen University of Hawaii players, both past and present, competed in the Super Finals of the Women’s Water Polo World Cup, held June 23-25, in Southern California.

A total of eight countries punched their tickets to the World Cup finals, with at least one Rainbow Wahine on three of the teams. Representing Spain was Paula Prats Rodriguez (2022), while Maartje Keuning (2017-18) and Maxine Schaap (2019) competed for the Netherlands. A trio of UH players also suited up for the Netherlands in Bernie Doyle (2019-20), Libby Gault (2018-23) and Bridget Layburn (2019-).

Keuning was particularly outstanding, scoring three goals in the title match. Team USA eventually outlasted the Netherlands, 12-11, however Keuning and Schapp still went home with silver medals for the Dutch. Meanwhile, Rodriguez earned a bronze for Spain which came into the 2023 final as the defending champion.
