The Boulder County Transportation department will be performing paving work on Fourmile Canyon Drive between Colo. 119 and Poorman Road this weekend that will require restrictions on cyclists.

Work is slated for 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. The currently gravel road will be reduced to one-lane during the work day and over 100 truck trips will be made through this tight and winding canyon, so during paving bikes will be restricted in that stretch of Fourmile Canyon Drive to help maintain safety, a news release stated.

Cyclists will be allowed to ride Sunshine Canyon Drive to Poorman and head uphill on Fourmile Canyon Drive, but no cycling will be allowed in the canyon below Poorman Road. Additionally, motorists in Fourmile Canyon can expect delays of up to 15 minutes between Colo. 119 — also known as Boulder Canyon Drive — and Poorman Road. Paving is being completed over the weekend to take advantage of days without roadway closures on Colo. 119/Boulder Canyon Drive.

Cycling restrictions will return to the previous schedule on Monday, which was 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Next week, crews will return their focus to completing the retaining walls the northern section of the Lower Fourmile Flood Recovery Project, which is located between Logan Mill Road and Salina Junction/Gold Run Road.
