HONOLULU – University of Hawai’i women’s golf head coach Julie Brooks announced the addition of Sofina Firouzi for the upcoming 2023-24 season. The San Diego, Calif., native redshirted in her lone season at Santa Clara in 2022-23.
 
“Sofina is a great addition to our team,” Brooks said. “She has a good competitive golf background and I look forward to working with her and helping her grow her game.
 
A 2022 graduate of Canyon Crest Academy in San Diego, Firouzi was a three-time, first-team all-CIF selection and led her team to a runner-up finish in the 2021 CIF Championship. She was the team’s Most Valuable Player in both her senior and sophomore seasons and was team captain as a senior.

Firouzi tied for medalist honors as a freshman at the league championship and finished third at the league championship as a senior. In 2019, she also won the Mickey Wright High School Invitational. An active junior golf participant, she was a finalist for the Drive, Chip, and Putt National event in 2020 and qualified for the IMG Junior World Championships five times. She competed in many junior golf tournaments throughout her career and was the recipient of the 2020 SCPGA Junior Tour, Toyota Tour Cup, Foundation Award. She also received the 2017 SCPGA Giovanni Villani Sportsmanship Award.

 

During the 2022 junior golf season, she finished with 11 Top 10 finishes; competed through the Round of 16 at the California Girls State Amateur Championship; was chosen to represent San Diego at the Girls Junior America’s Cup; and finished runner-up at the SCGA Women’s Amateur qualifier.

 

Firouzi is the fourth transfer to join the Rainbow Wahine for the upcoming season along with San Jose State’s Jordyn Parr, Washington State’s Emiko Sverduk, and Hawai’i Pacific’s Kellie Yamane.
