CZECH REPUBLIC—Incoming University of Hawai’i women’s tennis freshman Nelly Knezkova recently was selected to represent the Czech Republic in the upcoming FISU World University Games in Chengdu, China. The two-week international event will open on July 28 and run through August 8.
Knezkova is just one of four players selected to the Czech National Team. This is the first FISU World University Games since 2019 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The 12-day FISU World University Games includes 15 sports. Tennis is one of the oldest in the FISU sports program. It has been in every University Games since 1959.
Knezkova hails from Prague, Czech Republic and has extensive international experience representing the Czech Republic on their U12, U14, and U16 teams. In singles, she won the Czech championship and was a runner up once. Knezkova has won tournaments in Croatia, France, Spain, Belgium, Hungary and Poland and competed in the ITF (International Tennis Federation) in Sweden and Romania.
Knezkova is the fifth Rainbow Wahine from the Czech Republic under Hernandez, joining Nikola Homolkova (Pelhrimov), Marina (Hruba) Lam (Prague), Petra Melounova (Havlíčkuv Brod), Klara Novakova (Pilzen), and Klara Pribylova (Duchov)—all of whom have garnered All-Big West honors during their time at Hawai’i.
