DAVIS, Calif.—The University of Hawai’i women’s volleyball team concluded its three-match roadtrip with a sweep at UC Davis, 25-14, 25-18, 25-19 at the University Credit Union Center on Tuesday night. Amber Igiede led Hawai’i with a match-high 12 kills and she became just the 16th Rainbow Wahine to ever record 1,200th career kills. With the win, Hawai’i improves to 14-6 overall and 7-2 in the Big West. UC Davis fell to 10-9 overall and 5-4 in conference play.
 
For the match, Igiede hit .455 with just two errors on 22 swings. For the seventh time this season, the senior middle blocker recorded at least a kill, an assist, a service ace, a dig, and a block to fill her stat line completely. It marked her fourth-straight and 17th double-digit kill match of the season.
 
Caylen Alexander added nine kills hitting a season-high .500 (9-1-16) to go with six digs.
 
Kendra Ham came off the bench to put down five kills with no errors on seven swings for a career-high .714 hitting percentage.
 
In all, thirteen Rainbow Wahine played in the match with nine putting down at least two kill and 11 scooping up at least one dig.
 
Hawai’i got off to a hot start and led wire-to-wire in Set 1. UH scored on mini  runs to jump ahead for a10-3 lead. UC Davis would score the next three points to trail by just three at 10-7. But a 7-to-1 run by the ‘Bows would extend their lead to 17-8. UH would score four of the last five points to take Set 1, 25-14.
 
Set 2 started with a time violation on the opening serve by UH which gave UC Davis its first lead of the match at 1-0. The Aggies would hold off Hawai’i and was leading at 8-6. Hawai’i scored four straight to leapfrog over the Aggies for a 10-8 advantage. Later, UC Davis rallied for four-consecutive points to retake the lead at 13-12.  But the ‘Bows went on a 13-to-5 scoring run—which included a Paula Guersching six-point serving run that included back-to-back aces. UH pulled away to win Set 2, 25-18 to take a 2-0 match lead.
 
Hawai’i led from the get-go in Set 3. UH jumped out to an early 5-1 lead and never looked back. UH led by as many as seven at 16-9 and 22-15 and cruised to win Set 3, 25-19 for the team’s sixth conference sweep and ninth overall sweep of the season.
 
Hawai’i out hit the Aggies (who had 20 hitting errors in three sets), .333-to-.082 with a 45-to-28 advantage in kills. UH’s serve receive game was on-point, allowing UCD, who entered the week as the league leader in service aces to just three for the match.
 
The Rainbow Wahine return to Honolulu to begin the second round of the Big West season with a single game against UC Riverside (4-16, 3-5 BW) on Saturday, Oct. 21 at 7:00 p.m. HT at the SimpliFi Arena at Stan Sheriff Center. Saturday is a WHITEOUT and fans are encouraged to wear your favorite white UH apparel for “Christmas in October”. Fans can take selfies at the holiday photo booth on the concourse. The Rainbow Wahine will also host an Autograph Session immediately following the match.
