The Believe Walk once again brought a flow of pink and purpose through the streets of Redlands on Sunday, Oct. 6.

While the fundraiser for local cancer-fighting groups lost one of its co-founders in June, a team walking in Nancy Varner’s memory was close to making its $25,000 goal on Friday. At that point, the only team that had raised more was Stater Bros. Marketing with $28,365, according to the event’s website.

Since Inland Women Fighting Cancer and Stater Bros. Charities held the first walk, more than $5.1 million has been donated to help programs and services for cancer patients and their families.

This year’s 5k route included live music and motivational cheer groups. There was also a survivor celebration at Ed Hales Park, which offered support to patients, and a Bark and Believe station for four-legged participants.

More than 10,000 walkers were expected.
