Since the 1970s, Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art has been providing local artists a platform to shine and also has brought renowned global talent to the Front Range. Delivering top-tiered art experiences — just like those found in larger metropolitan cities — the museum continues to evolve into one of Colorado’s premier venues of culture and creativity.
Friday, the museum will host its biggest benefit of the year. Artmix will provide art lovers with a chance to bid on works by more than 100 artists and enjoy cuisine from Will Frischkorn and the team at Cured, all while helping a Boulder fixture thrive.
“Artmix is such a special time at BMoCA since it’s our largest fundraiser of the year, and you can truly feel the support of our community, sponsors and individuals,” said Sarah Braverman, development and marketing associate for BMoCA. “I’m most excited about the evening of the event itself, when all of these parties come together in support of the museum — and to celebrate.”
Kiah Butcher, visitor services lead and events coordinator for BMoCA, said, “I’m most looking forward to sharing this year’s breadth and depth of artists and works with Artmix attendees. Those who have attended Artmix in years past will notice that there are many new artists featured this year who haven’t been represented at the event before.”
Denver-based artist Lindee Zimmer will be among the artists featured at today’s event. Known for her vibrant and boldly colored murals that are both mystical and spiritually inspired, she also creates smaller pieces.
“I am really excited to be included in Artmix because I am from Boulder and it feels really special to show my work there as an artist,” Zimmer said.
From the coworking office space Charley Co. in the RiNo Arts District to Mission Ballroom in Denver, Zimmer’s eye-catching work can be found in a myriad of spaces.
“The most rewarding thing about creating large-scale murals is that I get to interact with people and the work I create is in a public space for everyone to engage with,” Zimmer said.
Earlier this month, she completed the mural “Love is Love” that adorns the exterior of Odell Brewing Co.’s Denver location as part of Crush Walls 2019.
“I love that I am from Colorado and I am able to make a living here as an artist,” Zimmer said.
Along with work by Zimmer, pieces by Remington Robinson, Suchitra Mattai, Mike Protzik, Taiko Chandler and many others will be up for bid.
Also up for grabs is an original by pop-art icon Andy Warhol that was donated by an avid art collector and longtime supporter of BMoCA.
There also will be an exclusive drink for VIP ticket holders, served during the VIP hour, a specialty cocktail crafted for the night sponsored by Suerte Tequila, and dessert from Shamane’s Bake Shoppe.
“I hope attendees feel they have an experience like no other,” Butcher said. “In no other event can you see such a variety of different art styles/artists, the community coming together and witness the best of Boulder.”
Money raised from Artmix will go toward exhibitions and programs that BMoCA delivers to the more than 114,000 people it serves yearly.
“I hope attendees feel a great sense of community,” Braverman said. “Attendees are a mix of artists, community members, donors, and people from all walks of life, and they’re all here because they care deeply about contemporary art and BMoCA. It’s a wonderful mix of art lovers and supporters, and a great opportunity to support the arts in Boulder.”
