Boulder City Council on on Tuesday gave final approval to create a marijuana licensing body similar to the city’s Beverage Licensing Authority.

Council sought to seat the new pot licensing board outside of the city’s normal annual recruitment timeline for advisory boards, but concerns about the city clerk’s office work schedule during election season kept it from doing so. The next council after the November election will seat the board.

The new licensing body will not be in charge of enforcement duties, but will oversee transfers of licenses when a pot retailer’s ownership changes and the issuance of new licenses.
