Saturday’s Bee Boulder Family Festival will be the capstone event of the city’s Pollinator Appreciation Month. Though the day’s intended for kids – there will be music by Jeff & Paige, interactive booths and take-home crafts – all ages are welcome to attend.
Rella Abernathy, integrated pest management coordinator for the city and a lead organizer, said that the fifth annual festival is part of the city’s larger efforts to “bring attention to the plight of pollinators” and engage the community.
Multiple community groups will be present, including Bee Chicas, the city library system and the University of Colorado Boulder’s Museum of Natural History.
“This festival helps people become more aware of the connection between our food and bees, and the importance of good backyard practices,” said Tracy Bellehumeur, one of the Bee Chicas. “They’re getting the picture that we can all do our bit in the city to support our bees.”
The free festival will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Central Park, 1236 Canyon Bouldevard.
