Boulder County is inviting residents to a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate completion of the Corral Trailhead and connected trails at the Heil Valley Ranch open space area south of Lyons.

County commissioners and Parks and Open Space Department staff are holding event at 4 p.m. Oct. 9 at 1188 Geer Canyon Road, which officials said in a news release also will mark the opening of the brand-new Grindtone Quarry trail, an equestrian parking lot for horse trailers, and the restoration of the historic Altona School.

Officials said  Heil Valley Ranch now comprises just over 6,230 acres and the new trails bring Heil to 19.5 trail miles.

Dogs are not permitted at Heil Valley Ranch because of sensitive wildlife habitat,  but county officials encouraged people to attend the Oct. 9 event, hike the new trails. and explore the one-room schoolhouse. Staff will be on hand to talk about the new trail additions and improvements.
