“Building Simplicity” is a documentary project, currently being filmed, that follows Eric as he single-handedly builds an ocean-going trimaran, named Simplicity.

Eric is a master-carpenter who started building Simplicity seven years ago inside an abandoned greenhouse in the mountains near Aspen, Colorado. Today he is nearing the end of Phase 1; finishing the outer shells of the 42 foot main hull and smaller outriggers.

While he is ramping up the speed of boat construction, he has many years of work ahead before he can retire onto Simplicity and sail the world.

A trimaran is a multihull boat that comprises a main hull and two smaller outrigger hulls (or “floats”) which are attached to the main hull with lateral beams. Think of a large catamaran with outriggers on both sides.

Watch for updated film trailers as work on the boat progresses.

“Building Simplicity” is a multi-year project being produced by Barry Stevenson and Outside Adventure Media. It potentially will be released in 2017.

Music, “missing your youth”, by the musical group LSD.
