Weather officials said waves up to 6 feet and dangerous currents are expected at beaches Thursday in northern and central Cook County.
A beach hazard is in effect through Friday night as conditions will be life-threatening for swimmers, especially inexperienced swimmers, officials said.
Emergency responders pulled two bodies from Lake Michigan on Labor Day. A man has remained missing since Tuesday morning after officials said he went into the water from a boat off shore near 31st Street Harbor.
A woman was pulled from the lake near Montrose Harbor after diving into the water on the south end of the harbor, officials said.
Thursday, blustery onshore winds are expected to create high waves and rip currents that officials said would be life-threatening, and cautioned everyone to stay out and away from the shore.
Morning conditions at O’Hare International Airport are overcast at 66 degrees. At Midway Airport conditions are the same at 68 degrees. Highs in the upper 60s are expected.
