Dining: Chancery Market, La Tolteca, Cheddar's, Kid Shelleen's


A new 10,000-square-foot garden plaza at The Chancery Market Food Hall & Bar at 1313 N. Market St will welcome customers in May.

Designed by the Delaware Center for Horticulture, this outdoor space will feature lawns, new landscaping, decorative hardscaping, and seating for 150. In addition to al fresco dining, an indoor/outdoor bar, a fireplace, and a large-screen TV, the plaza is carefully can be used for professional business meetings and co-working. The site will also feature games, live music, and other seasonal activities with views of the downtown Wilmington skyline.

Chancery Market also an indoor bar with a happy hour and trivia night. Customers can also order from several restaurants at the food hall.

Parking is free for three hours after 5:30 p.m. on weeknights and all day Saturday and Sunday.

La Tolteca opens in Barley Mill

La Tolteca has opened its second location at Barley Mill Plaza, a mixed-use development and home of the first Wegmans in Delaware.

The Mexican food restaurant has another location on Concord Pike.

La Tolteca joins breakfast and lunch spot First Watch at the site off Route 14 near Greenville.

Also opening this year is locally owned McGlynn’s, which has sports bar-restaurants in Dover, Pike Creek and Glasgow. They’re part of the Ashby Hospitality Group, which also owns the historic Deer Park in Newark and Cantwell’s in Odessa.

Cheddar’s opening in early March

The website for the comfort food restaurant says its new location on Churchmans Road near Christiana Hospital will open on March 6. The site was formerly the home of Old Country Buffet, which at last report is down to a dozen and a half locations.

Cheddar’s is no stranger to Delaware, having successfully operated a location near Dover for several years.

It’s part of Darden, a restaurant operator that likes Delaware. In addition to its Olive Garden flagship, it operates Longhorn steak and Bahama Breeze restaurants in the state. The hospitality giant has 1,850 locations.

Kid’s now open seven days a week

Locally owned Kid Shelleen’s is now operating seven days a week at new location in Branmar Plaza in north Wilmington.

The second location for the mainstay in the Trolley Square-40 Arres area of Wilmington was a hit from the start last year but has not been immune to the industry’s labor shortage.

The Branmawr location is now offering weekend brunches as well as burgers and other mainstays.
