guidance or ideas for fixing the cosmetic finish of this toilet seat is greatly appreciated. this toilet seat is worn in places. what appears to be a type of particle board, maybe?, is partially exposed.

this american standard toilet works great. the square design is unique which i like. this toilet is at least 30 years old, possibly older. have looked for many years for a replacement toilet seat without success. my goal is to keep the toilet and repair the cosmetics of the toilet seat.
