A small and crowded workshop could hold you back from doing your best possible woodworking. If your small workshop space is holding you back, here are some ways you can try to maximize your workshop.
In order to add some space to your workshop, you’re going to need to keep it very organized. The more organized and clean you keep it, the more room you will have. Working in a messy and unorganized workshop doesn’t only make your space seem smaller, it can be dangerous and you won’t be able to work as efficiently. Nothing causes more frustration than not being able to find the tool you need right when you need it. With a cluttered workshop you won’t be able to really enjoy your work, so clear it out and then clean it up.
First you need to take everything in your workshop and go through it. If you have been woodworking for a long time you may have items that you no longer need anymore which are taking up space that you could be for something useful.
Now you need items that can help you stay organized such as drawers, cabinets and shelves. You are woodworker, so try making them yourself and hang them around your workshop. Once all your cabinets, shelves and drawers are ready, start putting your items away, you should place the tools that you use most in cabinets and drawers that are closer to you and the items that you don’t use as much can go on the higher shelves.
Pegs and hooks on the wall in front of your workbench is a really great place for your tools, you won’t have to dig through a drawer to find the tool you need, you can just look up and it’s there. You want to try avoid using a lot of floor space, so try your best to keep all your storage systems hanging up on the walls.
Once you have organized all your woodworking tools, you should clean it up. Sweep the floors and dust out all the corners and the shelves.
If you are someone that really likes to take their time on their projects then you probably need a chair, but a big chair can take up a lot of space so try sticking to a simple stool that won’t get in your way.
Maximizing your workshop space isn’t a difficult task, all you need to do is use your best organizational skills and clean up every time you are done in your workshop.
