LEXINGTON, Ky.—University of Hawai’i women’s volleyball senior middle blocker Amber Igiede earned her fourth AVCA Pacific North All-Region honor on Tuesday. Igiede was named an All-Region honorable mention awardee as a freshman and a sophomore. She has now earned All-Region First Team honors in 2022 and ’23 (the Big West did not play the 2021 due to Covid). Igiede is the only non-PAC-12 player to be on the first team, joining four each from Stanford and Oregon and one from Washington State. Over 200 student-athletes from 103 different schools were honored.
Igiede helped lead the Rainbow Wahine to their fourth-straight conference title as UH swept their way through the inaugural Big West Championship tournament to punch their ticket to the program’s 30th consecutive and 41st NCAA Championship appearance. She concludes her stellar career as one of only four Rainbow Wahine to ever record over 1,000 kills and 500 blocks, finishing with 1,371 kills and 528 blocks for her career.
This year, the Baton Rouge, La.-native led the Big West with a career-high 435 kills. She was also the league leader in kill/set (3.72), hitting percentage (.396), points (540.0) and points/set (4.62). Igiede led UH with 28 service aces, 27 block solos, 100 block assists, 127 total blocks and she scooped up a career-high 117 digs.
Each of the 10 AVCA regions selects 14 student-athletes to the All-Region team and chooses a group of honorable mention selections. Additionally, every region picks a Player of the Year, Coach of the Year, and Freshman of the Year.
Igiede was the only player from The Big West to be named to the Pacific North All-Region team, but UC Santa Barbara’s senior outside hitter Michelle Ohwobete, senior libero Macall Peed were named to the Pacific South All-Region Team, and Long Beach State setter Zayna Meyer earned honorable mention honors.
