CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — The Fighting Illini football program will host a year-long celebration of the 100th anniversary of Memorial Stadium’s dedication, the Division of Intercollegiate Athletics (DIA) announced Tuesday. Memorial Stadium’s Dedication Game famously occurred against Michigan on Oct. 18, 1924, when Illini legend Red Grange gained national headlines after scoring four touchdowns in the first 12 minutes then later running for a fifth touchdown and throwing for a sixth to take down the previously-undefeated Wolverines.
Illinois is set to host Michigan on Saturday, Oct. 19, 100 years and one day from Grange’s historic performance. The game will be marked as Memorial Stadium’s “Rededication Game” with the 100th anniversary celebrations lasting throughout the…
