CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Illinois volleyball was named a 2023 USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award winner by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) on Thursday afternoon.
The award, initiated in the 1992–93 academic year, honors volleyball teams that maintain a year-long grade-point average of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale or 4.1 on a 5.0 scale. This year, 1,332 collegiate and high school volleyball teams earned the recognition, marking an all-time record number of programs honored for their academic achievements.
This year was the 11th-straight season the Fighting Illini program has earned the award. During the 2022-23 campaign, 11 student-athletes received Academic All-Big Ten honors while four were recently named distinguished scholars by the league.
