A man was shot dead near an east Las Vegas Valley park early Saturday morning, according to police.
Metropolitan Police Department Lt. Monique Rodriguez said dispatchers received a call around 5:18 a.m. reporting an unresponsive man on the ground in the 1500 block of South Hollywood Boulevard, near Hollywood Regional Park. The park is between East Charleston Avenue and East Sahara Avenue.
The man, who had suffered a gunshot wound, was pronounced dead at the scene when officers arrived, police said.
Rodriguez said the victim had been at the park with friends that morning, but those people were not with him when his body was found.
At the time of the late-morning briefing, police had not made an arrest in the shooting, she said. Rodriguez noted that the people who the man was said to have been with at the park were not being considered suspects.
The lieutenant, who said the fatal shooting was still under investigation, asked those with information to contact police.
“We currently don’t have any witnesses,” Rodriguez said. “That’s why we’re urging people to come forward with information.”
