After years apart, a dog and her owner were reunited, thanks to a good Samaritan, a microchip and assistance from the Riverside County Department of Animals Services.
Kimber, an 8-year-old German shepherd, went missing in 2015. She previously belonged to a man from Grass Valley up in Nevada County.
Animal Services said Kimber was found by someone in Fontana. John Welsh, spokesman for Animal Services, said its Jurupa Valley shelter was more than happy to take in the stray dog.
The department’s Jurupa Valley Shelter contracts with several towns in San Bernardino County, including Fontana, Rialto, Colton and Grand Terrace.
Thanks to the dog’s microchip, animal officials were able to get in contact with the owner, who made the nearly 500-mile trek from Grass Valley to Jurupa Valley to reclaim his long-lost companion.
“We just want people to know it’s important to never give up looking for a lost pet,” Welsh said.
