At least one school in the Rialto Unified School District will be closed due to power outages on Friday, and officials with the Redlands Unified School District suggested that schools may be closed due to poor air quality.

Syeda Jafri, spokeswoman for the Rialto Unified School District, said Nancy R Kordyak Elementary School will be closed on Friday due to power outages in the area. She suggested that the closure could extend into next week if the power is not restored by Southern California Edison.

“The health and safety of our students and staff remains our number-one priority,” Jafri said.

Several parents picked up their children from school early on Thursday, according to Jafri, though she didn’t give an exact number.

The Redlands Unified School District said on Twitter that schools may be closed on Friday due to poor air quality. The district said it would update with more information.
