Boulder police said there is no evidence of foul play in the death of an 80-year-old cyclist who was found Friday night in front of the Diagonal Plaza.
The Boulder County Coroner’s Office today identified the cyclist as James Wegner of Boulder.
Wegner was found unconscious with his bicycle at 10 p.m. Friday on the roadway in front of the Diagonal Plaza, 2972 Iris Ave. A witness told police they had not seen a crash but discovered Wegner in the roadway already unconscious.
When police arrived, Wegner was not breathing and attempts to revive him were unsuccessful.
Boulder police spokeswoman Shannon Aulabaugh said Monday police at this time do not suspect any foul play, and do not believe any other vehicles were involved. Police believe the man was riding his bicycle eastbound, rode over a speed hump, lost control and crashed.
The coroner’s office will conduct an autopsy and investigation to determine the official cause and manner of death.
