At the Hatch conference in October 2013, Philip Sheppard introduced this original composition, Woodwork, recalling his childhood experience in wood shop class, in which the product of his labors was a pile of wood shavings. Watch as he scrapes and slaps his priceless 300 year old cello with his bare hands at freezing temperature. I suspect his hands took a beating, but we got more than a pile of fingernails. Sheppard brings out fabulous tones and percussion as he shapes this lovely piece.
