TYLER, TEXAS – University of Hawai’i quarterback Brayden Schager was among a list of 69 players for the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award, given to the nation’s top offensive player who was either born in the state of Texas, graduated from a Texas high school, played at a Texas-based junior college or currently playing at a Texas Division I four-year college.
In addition, the player must also exhibit the enduring characteristics that define Earl Campbell: integrity, performance, teamwork, sportsmanship, drive, community and tenacity; specifically, tenacity to persist and determination to overcome adversity and injury in pursuit of reaching goals.
A native of Dallas, Texas, Schager is a 2021 graduate Highland Park High School. Last season, he started 10 games at quarterback and threw for 2,348 yards and 13 touchdowns. He finished second in the Mountain West in passing yards per game (195.7), pass attempts (400), and total offensive plays (445).
The Watch List includes players from 10 conferences and one independent; 30 different states; and 59 schools. Wide receivers and quarterbacks lead the nominations with 22 each, followed by running backs (16), offensive linemen (5) and tight ends (4).
The list will be narrowed to up to 16 semifinalists in November and then up to five finalists in December. They will be selected by broadcasters, commentators, journalists, fans, and previous winners. The finalists will be brought to Tyler for The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award Banquet scheduled for January 10, 2024.
