IOWA CITY, Iowa – The Illinois men’s and women’s track and field teams completed the first day of the Larry Wieczorek Invitational on Friday, Jan. 19. Senior Tyler Sudduth and graduate student Amber Simpson each won and broke school records in today’s weight throw competition.
Sudduth’s 23.14m (75-11) heave ranks first in the country for 2024 and was a new Iowa Recreation Building facility record. Simpson has broken the school record in all three of her weight throw appearances this season; today’s 21.94m (71-11) toss is eighth in the nation.
Junior Bara Sajdokova became the first Illini woman in 25 years to match Stacy Ann Grant’s 1.87m (6-1 1/2) school record set back in 1999. Sajdokova walked away the event champion today with the nation’s fourth best mark. Freshman Rose Yeboah made her Illini debut today on the high jump and…
