MadArt’s first exhibit, “The Window Art Project”, showcased artwork in prime retail storefronts located in Seattle’s busy Madison Park business district. This was made possible by 18 merchants who provided valuable windows in which to host art by 16 local, emerging artists. The artworks highlighted a range of mediums, from painting and ceramics to woodworking and mixed-media installations. Each piece was site-specific and easily seen from the sidewalk, giving visitors an unexpected viewing experience. MadArt’s goal for the project was to offer an unusual creative challenge for local artists to make new works, and to provide neighborhood visitors the opportunity to see contemporary artwork in everyday places.
