Members of the Uber community relations team presented County Executive Matt Meyer and New Castle County’s Hope Center with a check for $10,000 in rideshare credits.
The credits provide a transportation lifeline to allow Hope Center residents to get to doctor’s appointments, school, job interviews and other commitments for the center, which provides lodging for the homeless.
The county purchased the former Sheraton Hotel off I-95 in the New Castle area with federal pandemic funds that went to local government. The purchase also took hotel rooms off the market during the pandemic.
The center, like its hotel predecessor, is oin an isolated area without easy access to transportation, social services and businesses.
The center provides services aimed at getting residents permanent housing.
